With the right plate, even something as simple as an apple can look artful. I'm a foodie. I love eating and cooking food. There is little I won't try, but I still always come back to the basics.
One thing I've learned over the years is that a simple snack becomes an experience when treated with a bit of respect. Whether you like a simple, solid colored plate or a plate with a bit more pizazz, each handmade Snack & Dessert Plate is sure to make whatever food you put on it look appetizing.
Each plate is thrown on my potter's wheel using a high fire white stoneware. Once the plate is dry enough to handle, I put it back onto the wheel and trim the bottom to smooth and shape the foot. Plates must dry slowly so they don't warp or crack, so the drying process can take anywhere from a few days to a week or more. They're loaded into the electric kiln for a bisque firing which takes about 24 hours from start to finish then the bottoms are waxed with a brush and wax resist. Each plate is hand glazed, the waxed bottom cleaned up then loaded back into the electric kiln for a high temp glaze firing which takes another 28-30 hours from the time the kiln is started until it is cool enough to unload.
Approximate dimensions are 7.5" x 3/4" and will vary slightly due to the handmade nature of wheel thrown pottery, but that's what makes it so cool. You'l receive a plate like those in the pictures, but probably not that exact plate.
